James (Jim) Heaton, President

With over 40 years of experience, Jim uniquely understands the interplay of business, technology, and manufacturing. His experience in technology assessment, planning, marketing, management, and project management includes work in the following areas:

  • IT systems and services for enterprise and shop floor environments
  • Real-time and embedded systems
  • Broad-based technology experience including semiconductors, electronics, computers, software, and large systems.

Jim Heaton is a frequent speaker at technical, IT, and automation conferences and has directed automation and productivity seminars. His publishing and presentation activities have included:

  • Research white papers for National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, National Institute for Standards and Technology, and SEMATECH
  • Presentations and conference proceedings for ACM, APICS, Engineering Society of Detroit, IEEE, ISA, Materials Handling Institute, SAE, and SME
  • Presentations for Harbor Research, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Inc., QAD, Rockwell Automation, SAP, Schneider Electric, Siemens, and others
  • Numerous Jim Heaton presentations at AMR Research conferences.

Jim's education includes an BA degree in Physics and Philosophy from Yale University and graduate work in Computers and Communication Science at the University of Michigan. He is also a member of IEEE, ACM, and the World Future Society.

In addition to founding KVQuest, originally Oracle Inc., Jim Heaton's prior career includes Vice President and co-founder of AMR Research; co-founder of Harbor Research, Vice President of Product Development with Xycom Automation; Director of Industrial Marketing with Logicon Process Systems Division; Vice President and co-founder of Ann Arbor Computer Corporation; and Display Technology Sales Manager at Burroughs Ann Arbor Laboratory.

Also, under consulting contract to KVQuest, Jim is or has been a virtual employee of AMR Research, AMR Consulting, Harbor Research, Online Development, Inc., and The Solutions Group, Inc.
